Price War on eBooks

The general ebook market is getting more complicated and it looks like it is going to benefit the consumer in the short term. Here is an article posted on TechFlesh.com on December 11th, 2009.

Clip from article:

“Just this week, some major book publishers signaled they’ll be making a habit of holding back the electronic version of popular titles to preserve hardcover sales. At issue is Amazon’s policy — picked up by other retailers — of deeply discounting new release e-books to $9.99.

Now Amazon is responding with some hardball tactics of its own. The ecommerce giant is doing deeper discounts on the e-book versions of several popular titles — Sarah Palin’s “Going Rogue,” Edward Kennedy’s “True Compass,” and Stephen King’s “Under the Dome” — whose publishers have delayed going digital. Pre-orders for these books are now going for $7.99, and some of Amazon’s rivals are already matching that price.”
