I’ve had my Kindle 2 Device for about three weeks now and I absolutely love it. It took me a few days to get used to the screen flash for the page turn, but I don’t even notice it now. Downloading books is incredibly easy and I find that I’m reading far more than I was before I owned the device. I’ve downloaded several from Project Gutenberg as well as from Amazon itself. Books I never would have thought to read before are now on my Kindle 2 Device.
I even took it to the emergency room a few days ago and it saved me. I was in the waiting room for almost an hour, and waited another 3 once I was in a room. I wasn’t sick – I was bit by a potentially rabid cat – so I would have been extremely bored without it. I didn’t have time to search my bookshelf for a book before leaving for the ER, so I just grabbed my Kindle 2 Device and had almost 100 books to choose from.
This thing is amazing, and I’m so happy I bought it.
Fantastic for vacations and travel; ideal for visually impaired!
By: J. Mandeville
Although pricey, the real value of this purchase is that it got me to read again. Love the fact that I can go on vacation without having to pick out books in advance, or get something at the airport. Love that it remembers where I am if I fall asleep. Love that I can read it on the beach. Love that it holds a charge for so long.
Would be nice if it had a backlight option, but books don’t have that anyway. As I get sleepier, I like to enlarge the font, which is a nice feature. And I’m constantly using the dictionary to look up words that I “kind of” know — great feature. Color will be a nice addition some day, but totally unnecessary.
Originally got this for my grandfather with glaucoma, who now has just tunnel vision. Seemed like the perfect thing for an ex-avid reader, since you can change font size, have it read to you, download newspapers and magazines, and you don’t have to drive to the book store or library! But if you can’t program the clock on your microwave, you probably can’t use the Kindle 2 Device. It is very easy for anyone under 60. A good idea for the visually impaired.
I was a bit skeptic about buying a Kindle 2 Device; however, I am an avid reader and decided to give it a try in spite of the $299.00 price tag.
While on vacation out of state, I was reading an outstanding book and was really upset when I realized that I left it in a hotel room. Kindle 2 Device came to the rescue. I downloaded the book on my Kindle 2 Device for $6.99 in less than 30 seconds. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the Kindle 2 Device is to operate. I adjusted the print size to a comfortable size and finished my book in record time.
I was surprised that the Kindle 2 Device could read to me. Although the voice inflection was inappropriate at times–for example, it translated Ms. Jones as millisecond Jones, but I could still understand it and appreciated the fact that I could listen to the book while working. I also enjoy the ease of looking up words on the built in dictionary in the device. One simply moves the cursor in front of the word in the text to obtain the definition. A click on the back button removes the dictionary.
I also enjoy the feature in the lower left corner that tells the reader what percentage of the book s/he has read. Likewise, I was pleasantly surprised that when I shut down the device and turned it back on later it remained on the page I left it.
The book feels very comfortable in my hand and there is no glare. Nevertheless, I was worried that I might drop and break it so I ordered a leather case and an extra year of warranty.
I have encountered a problem that I had not thought about before purchasing the product. Each time I use it in a public place, people interrupt my reading to find out what kind of a machine I am using and for what purpose.
I can see multiple uses for this device. Imagine students who could download all of their text books on one light and convenient device. Good bye back pack! Hello Kindle 2 Device!
I really like my Kindle 2 Device so far and am happy I made the investment. So far the most expensive book I have found to download is $9.99. If you are an avid reader, I think you will enjoy the easy access to up to 1,500 books at your finger tips. I know I do.
