Unitus Community Credit Union’s Bright Idea Catches On Across Nation

Brett Wooden

Portland, Ore. (Vocus) November 17, 2010

Sometimes an easy-to-implement idea comes out on top. For Unitus Community Credit Union, an idea to take iPads out to potential members and sign them up for accounts on the spot proved to be so novel that other credit unions and financial consultants from around the U.S. are calling for more details.

Brett Wooden, Unitus’ Business Development Manager, found himself the winner of a competition to earn more business from the youth market, generally in the 16 to 28 age range. Wooden said he had used his iPad once to meet with a business client who did not have time to come into the branch. Once he realized he could help her open accounts, check savings and loan interest rates, view the Unitus website and its new personal finance tool, he entered his idea in the Real Solutions competition sponsored by the Credit Union Association of Oregon.

Not only did he win, but faster than you can say “Internet,” the idea began circulating across the country. Nearly every day since the idea came to light, Wooden has received calls and emails from as far away as Boston and San Antonio asking for more information about implementation of the iPad program.

The convenience factor has helped Wooden sign up far more members than by just visiting them on site and encouraging them to come into a branch. Even though the campaign was targeted at the youth market, Wooden has found that the idea is popular across all age groups.

“It seems pretty popular all the way around,” he said. “When you take an iPad with you, it saves time for the individual, his or her place of business and for Unitus.”

www.netbooknews.com Netbook News has out their Best of Awards for Computex 2010. Find out who we think wins our awards for Best Netbook, Best Software, Best Tablet and Best Future Technology of the show. Netbook News even gives you a look at our favorite bizarre gadget and an honorable mention. The launch of Apple’s iPad in early 2010 has stirred up the long-silent Tablet PC industry and has once again come into the spot light. This isn’t the first time, tablets have tried to make it to the mainstream twice over the past 10 years, but this year is meant to be the year of the tablet. So this show which was meant to show off the cream of the crop fro iPad competitors has a few options to offer. Something else that is interesting to note is that netbooks have made a fresh competitive step forward with the Canoe Lake reference design. Industry analysts often look at the the tablet, eReader and Netbook as having a few overlapping functions. That’s what we loved about Computex, everyone put their best foot forward. The Netbook News Best of Awards gives you a great overview of what the industry is going to be pushing for the rest of 2010 and for Christmas.
