I saw a link to the fraudulent “swipebids.com” site and the “bid for a $ 23 iPad” link on CNN.

How can the big media outlets get away with this type of trickery? Should the media also be held accountable if a person loses money as a result of a link on their websites?

Is the big media that desperate for money that they trick their customers?

Like if you search on Yahoo for Cheap iPad the first site that shows is an affiliate site cheapipads(dot)us.

How do they get their sites listed first? Were they the first to make a site and use the keywords “Cheap iPad”?

Depends on the search engine and the competitiveness of the term.

Yahoo!’s the worst example since it’s the one that allows for the most obvious spam. It’s gotten a whole lot better lately, but it’s got a ways to go before it gets rid of the thin affiliate sites, the splogs, the MFA sites, etc.

“Cheap” is also a key word in that a lot of SEOs and wannabes will target the word “cheap” because they figure people will search for that word. And they’re right…people will search for that word. People who are cheap and usually spend as little as is absolutely possible while causing more grief than the people who spend the most money, that is. But this is where you get a lot of the get-rich-quick affiliate sites and things of that nature…people targeting “budget” words.

I’m curious to know what ebook store you’re using. Books on Board has a lot of stuff for the Sony.

Since the Sony Reader can handle epub and pdf files, it should be easy enough to find free downloads. Also, try your public library website. A lot of libraries nowadays are also offering ebook loans.
